Your role
As a Network Engineer you are part of our tight-knit Networking team and have an important role in our infrastructure deployment and maintenance. The infrastructure is situated on premises spread around the globe and occasionally you will visit the data centers. By using the latest tools for deployment and management for Virtual Machines, Network elements and servers, you shape the ultimate networking, compute, storage and virtualization environments for our customers. Together with your colleague Engineers you will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated and cohesive solutions that are reliable and future-proof. There is plenty of room for your individual development and collaboration with data centers, equipment and software vendors. These include VMware, Cisco, HP, Equinix and others.
Your regular tasks
- Design, configure, and maintain Cisco switches and ASR routers;
- Manage and optimize firewalls and ensure their security policies are up to date;
- Configure and troubleshoot routing protocols, including BGP, OSPF and VRRP;
- Connect to and manage services with Internet Exchanges;
- Automate network and configuration management tasks using tools like Ansible or Terraform;
- Develop and maintain playbooks and infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) configurations for provisioning, configuration, and monitoring;
- Identify and mitigate network issues such as spanning tree flaps, broadcast storms, or unwanted traffic;
- Work on projects to implement SD-WAN and enhance network redundancy;
- Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to design scalable network solutions;
- Monitor, analyze, and report on network performance using NMS tools such as Observium;
- Maintain compliance with security policies and assist with audits, including NIST and ISO 27001 frameworks.
Your qualifications
- Preferably Bachelor’s degree in Computers Science, Information Technology or related field;
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP);
- 5+ years of work experience in enterprise-level network engineering roles, ISP knowledge preferred;
- Proficiency in operating systems like Cisco IOS, NX-OS, and SonicOS;
- Deep understanding of BGP, OSPF, VRRP, and Internet routing;
- Hands-on experience with network automation tools, especially Ansible and/or Terraform (preferred);
- Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST and ISO 27001 (preferred);
- Strong knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, and IPS/IDS solutions;
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like Observium, Nagios, or SolarWinds;
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills;
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment;
- Self-propelling and quick learner with the ability to think outside of the box;
- Excellent communication and documentation skills;
- Good verbal and written communication and documentation skills in both Dutch and English.
