All networks interoperable, a platform to build value

Business Cases

A US fortune 100 company delivering global integrated connectivity solutions onboard aircraft is using multiple vendors and types of connectivity to deliver its services. The connectivity ranges from terrestrial WLAN and LTE based technology from local and mobile operators to a host of satellite operators when planes are airborne.

In delivering these services based on a myriad of technologies and providers the company found itself struggling to deliver single unified integrated solutions at the quality of service levels it had set itself as the standard!

Moreover, individual customers therefore had bespoke setups that delivered as promised however, as such, they were not easy to upgrade nor to build new Value-Added Services on top of. Most importantly they were not scalable!

On the other hand, their customers were demanding a single user experience wherever they were; i.e. business tools like Teams or Zoom and Google or Netflix need to perform, look and feel exactly the way they do in the office or at home…

iVent took a stepped approach with the customer. This gave the possibility to move with ever evolving user requirements and it allowed the customer to gradually role the improved offering out to their customer base taking them by the hand and learning from their feedback at the same time.

In year 1 we delivered the multi operator infrastructure delivering seamless connectivity across all the various technologies and providers. This was in part based on installing the required Hardware such as interconnects, switches, routers etc. and in part the Software allowing for the management thereof.

The second year we upgraded the above to deliver total end to end assurance. This gives the users throughout the value chain full insight in network performance and seamless Quality of Service (network throughput, performance and managed access).

In year 3 we went a step further and we gave the end-user full control over his own experience. This implies users are now empowered to manage their connectivity from their own device in real time.

Imagine that you are in an airplane and you can determine right there and then whether your internet experience will be US or French based on setting your local break out to New York or Paris with immediate effect by updating some setting using your iPad or smartphone.

In the meantime, iVent has moved on and updated all of the analytics tooling for this customer as well allowing to troubleshoot and guarantee user experience always in real time.

However, the first and initial project gave the customer access already to a highly flexible seamless and scalable network technology.

This technology, engineered developed and implemented by iVent, allowed this customer to double their revenues in this market!

The approach has now found to deliver similar benefits in the Maritime, Cruise and Energy markets as well

Extending satellite with LTE, a single network

Imagine that you own and operate a vessel that sails regularly between Shanghai in the Far East and Hamburg in Western Europe.

During this voyage you are connected to the internet on a constant basis in order to get all the regular weather updates, fulfill all the required ……….. and in effect be a regular part of your organization as a remote office. Next to this your crew needs to stay in touch with their loved ones and have access to the news, sports and entertainment when at Sea.

Unlocking -off the grid- Camps

A provider of remote connectivity solutions has a number of customers in the mining industry. An industry with companies typically managing activities in multiple countries, sometimes even spread over more than one continent. The mines are most often located on the edge or over the edge of regular mobile coverage.

Personnel of these companies may travel between different sites within a country or even between countries. Ideally these people can also call out or be reached, wherever they are, also on site. Using their own device!

Speedrecord in App development

A medium sized global company boasting a couple of hundred million dollars in revenues delivering connectivity services on board of vessels, aircraft and remote locations was struggling to find a solution to the following problem;

The individual users on a compound, vessel or plane could make calls to the outside world however people in the outside world could not reach them if they were “off the grid” on their regular mobile numbers.
