Network interoperability, a platform to build value

Business Cases

How to multiply revenues and margins by delivering value and simplifying operations at the same time.

An US Fortune 100 company delivering global integrated connectivity solutions onboard aircraft is using multiple vendors and types of connectivity to deliver its services. The connectivity ranges from terrestrial WLAN and LTE based technology from local and mobile operators to a host of satellite operators when planes are airborne.

In delivering these services, based on a myriad of technologies and providers, the company found itself struggling to deliver single unified integrated solutions; especially at the quality-of-experience (QoE) levels it had set itself as the standard!

As part of this individual customers had bespoke setups that, really, delivered as promised. However, as such, they were not easy to upgrade nor to build new Value-Added Services on top of. Most importantly they were not scalable!

To complicate matters, their customers were demanding a single user experience wherever they were; i.e. business tools like Teams or Zoom and Google or Netflix need to perform, look and feel exactly the way they do in the office or at home…

iVent took a stepped approach with the customer. This gave the possibility to move with the ever evolving user requirements. And it allowed the customer to gradually role the improved offering out to their customer base, taking them by the hand and learning from their feedback at the same time.

In year 1 we delivered the multi operator infrastructure delivering seamless connectivity across all the various technologies and providers. This was in part based on installing the required Hardware such as interconnects, switches, routers etc. and in part the software allowing for the management thereof.

The second year we upgraded all of the the above to deliver total end to end assurance. This gives the users throughout the value chainfull insight in network performance and seamless Quality of Service (network throughput, performance and managed access).

In year three we went a step further and we gave the end-user full control over his own experience. This implies the following;

Now, imagine that you are in an airplane and you, yourself, can determine right there and then, whether your internet experience will be US or French based. Just by putting your local break out to New York or Paris with immediate effect by updating a mere setting, simply using your tablet or smartphone.

Network interoperability a platform to build value

All the above technology, engineered developed and implemented by iVent, allowed this customer to double their revenues in this market!

The approach has now found to deliver similar benefits in the Maritime, Cruise and Energy markets as well.

Network monitoring and traffic analytics

10x the number of subscribers, 5x the number of networks and overhead down by 90% at the same time!
In a complex global network environment, problems can and will occur. This leads to support calls and requests. So normally as you grow your customer base the number of calls will go up and so will the number of staff probably. Especially if you increase the number and types of technologies and networks at the same time.

In this case, whilst adding extra complexity and growing the customer base by 1000% within 5 years, our customer was still able to reduce its support staff by deploying sophisticated though simple “single user plane” netMonitoring and netAnalytics tools!

Unlocking -off the grid- Camps

a single solution applicable to all sites, the staff can use their own smartphone and you save money as well.
As a Service-Provider your customer has operations in remote areas in multiple countries and communication is of the essence. For optimal functionality and ease, ideally, they simply use the same mobile phone they also use back home. Most sites however are not covered by any of the local operators.

Instead of reverting to all sorts of more complex, costly solution that may or may not work based on local circumstances, options are available to facilitate the use of the simple smartphone.

If you understand the core GSM network technology and the regulatory playing field there is a way forward.

How to ensure your customers passengers are reachable at all times, on their own Mobile! And win new business..
In spite of the fact that you are always connected, this doesn’t imply you are always reachable.
So, when you are travelling your business partners may want to call you urgently. However, they are not necessarily fully abreast of your schedule. And sometimes you are on WiFi-only for hours! And it is imperative to get a hold of you.

Regular Wifi-calling may look like the right solution but isn’t.

The problem was pressing and a deal breaker for a large service provider.

When iVent understood the problem it presented a solution-architecture within 3 weeks and working technology in 4 months.

Buying global network infra, the smart way!

Hardware and software supply chains and the cost benefits of a unified approach, saving 20% or more on procurement.
Organisations supporting global networks in i.e. Maritime, Government, and Energy, depend on a multitude of providers and technologies. Still, they often source Network infrastructure, SW or HW components locally.

This leads to several inherent challenges, as the local supplier doesn’t grasp the full scope of the business and total technical requirements. Subsequently, fragmented design leads to suboptimal performance. Scattered procurement leads to higher costs. Also, in providing support the local suppliers lack the complete overview.

The solution is a supplier that understands your business and network requirements and has direct relationships with global suppliers, leading to immediate savings.
